Requirements for 8^th Grade Students

Enrolled in Algebra 1A

Your child is enrolled in Algebra 1A as an 8^th grader.  In order for your child to demonstrate success in this math course this school year and to qualify to enroll in Algebra 1B or Algebra 1 next year, your child must meet one of the following three criteria:

1. Earn a 4-quarter GPA of 3.00 or higher in Algebra 1A and score 60% or higher on the end-of-course Algebra 1A Final Exam,

OR

2. Earn a 4-quarter GPA of 2.00 or higher in Algebra 1A and score 70% or higher on the end-of-course Algebra 1A Final Exam,

OR

3. Score 80% or higher on the end-of-course Algebra 1A Final Exam.

All 8^th grade Algebra 1A students who are unable to meet the Algebra 1B placement criteria will repeat Algebra 1A in 9^th grade.

It is recommended that all 8^th grade Algebra 1A students who earn a 4-quarter GPA of 3.50 or higher and score 80% or higher on the Algebra 1A Final Exam be placed in Algebra 1, instead of Algebra 1B, in 9^th grade.  Other 8^th grade Algebra 1A students who qualify to enroll in Algebra 1B in 9^th grade may request to be placed in Algebra 1.
