Requirements for 7^th Grade Students

Enrolled in Algebra 1

Your child is enrolled in Algebra 1 as a 7^th grader.  In order for your child to demonstrate success in this advanced course of study in math this school year, your child must meet the following criteria:

•     All 7^th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 must demonstrate excellent work

      habits, behavior and attendance.

•     All 7^th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 must earn a “B” grade or better at

      the end of the first quarter.  Grades will be based primarily upon student

      achievement on classroom tests, with a small portion of the grade based

      upon homework completion.

•     All 7^th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 who earn a “C” grade at the end of the first quarter will be recommended to move to Pre-Algebra, the regular 7^th grade math class, but may be allowed to remain in Algebra 1.  However, these students must earn a “B” grade or better at the end of the second quarter in order to remain in the Algebra 1 class.

•     All 7^th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 who earn a “D” or “F” grade at the end of the first quarter or second quarter will be moved out of Algebra 1 and into Pre-Algebra.

•     All 7^th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 must (1) earn a minimum 4-quarter

      grade point average of 3.00 in Algebra 1 AND (2) pass the Algebra 1 Final Exam by scoring 70% or higher, in order to be promoted to Geometry in 8^th grade.  Students who earn less than a 3.00 GPA in Algebra 1 this year OR are unable to pass the Algebra 1 Final Exam will repeat Algebra 1 in 8^th grade.

      Exception:  Students who earn a 2.75 GPA in Algebra 1 (3 “Bs” and 1 “C”), with the “C” occurring in the either the first or second quarter, will be promoted to Geometry in 8^th grade.
