Requirements for 8^th Grade Students

Enrolled in Algebra 1A

Your child is enrolled in Algebra 1A as an 8^th grader.  In order for your child to demonstrate success in this course of study this school year and qualify to enroll in Algebra 1B in 9^th grade, your child must meet the following criteria:

•     All 8^th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1A must (1) earn a “C” grade or better

in both the 3^rd and 4^th quarters AND (2) earn a minimum 4-quarter GPA of 2.75 in Algebra 1A.

Exception: Students who earn a GPA between 2.00 and 2.50, inclusive, will qualify to enroll in Algebra 1B if they earn 70% or higher on the end of course Algebra 1A Final Exam.

Students who are unable to meet the Algebra 1B placement criteria, will repeat Algebra 1A in 9^th grade.

Students who earn high grades in Algebra 1A may elect to enroll in Algebra 1 in

9^th grade, instead of Algebra 1B.  Students with high grades should discuss this option with their Algebra 1A teacher.
