Requirements for 8th Grade Students

Enrolled in Algebra 1A

Your child is enrolled in Algebra 1A as an 8th grader.  In order for your child to demonstrate success in this course of study this school year and qualify to enroll in Algebra 1B in 9th grade, your child must meet the following criteria:

•     All 8th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1A must (1) earn a “C” grade or better

in both the 3rd and 4th quarters AND (2) earn a minimum 4-quarter GPA of 2.75 in Algebra 1A.

Exception: Students who earn a GPA between 2.00 and 2.50, inclusive, will qualify to enroll in Algebra 1B if they earn 70% or higher on the end of course Algebra 1A Final Exam.

Students who are unable to meet the Algebra 1B placement criteria, will repeat Algebra 1A in 9th grade.

Students who earn high grades in Algebra 1A may elect to enroll in Algebra 1 in

9th grade, instead of Algebra 1B.  Students with high grades should discuss this option with their Algebra 1A teacher.

Your child’s math teacher will contact you if your child is performing below the grade standards listed above.

Please sign below to acknowledge that you have read and agree to the criteria listed above.
