So you missed Back to School

Welcome to Algebra (single greatest indicator for success in college)

General Comments

Algebra is a new world for many students.

Typical Day

Warm up

Correct homework by overhead, cards, hands.

Collect homework

Introduce new lesson (notes examples handouts etc.)

Let students get started (monitor)

Homework

Homework is assigned each school day. (Monday through Friday)

Homework assignments are posted in my room and on my web site.

www.mathwise.net Click on Homework Calendar. Then go to specific date.

Students are required to keep all returned homework for their protection. (They do not have to keep it in their notebook. They can leave it at home.)

Heading includes name, date, period and assignment. (Students who fail to put their name on their papers are a big concern)

The warm-ups (show example) are considered part of the homework.

Homework is graded on form, effort, completeness and neatness.

Students are required to write the problem down (except word problems) and show all work.

Students are given full credit (10 points) or asked to redo or complete the assignments.

My expectations are that 100% of homework is turned in.

A CUSD progress report will be sent home if 100% of homework is not turned in.

Tests

I give a test at the end of each week, (usually Friday) if I have paper, scantons and the  Xerox works.

Tests are returned and reviewed (questions answered) the Monday after the test..

Algebra 1A (Second Chance) on web site

Grading

90% - 100% A

80% - 89% B

70% - 79% C

60% - 69% D

0% - 59% F

Grades are emailed home each week and reflect the grade to date. They are also posted in my classroom each Monday.

Progress Reports (sent by CUSD)

Progress Repots are mailed by CUSD in the middle of each quarter.

They are to be used to communicate to parents and students about grades (below a “C”) and citizenship (below satisfactory).

I also send progress reports if students do not have all homework assignments turned in.

When I do this I have to bubble in “no mark” for the CUSD computer to read the comments section.

Please do not panic if a progress report has “no mark”. I have tried to get the district to change this unnecessary situation but my concerns have fallen on deaf ears.

Email (show example) (sent by Mr. Erickson)

If you send me your email address, I will send you a weekly summary of your student’s grade.

This is for parents only.

If you do not see an “A” and 100% in homework then the student has failed to turn in one or more assignments.

Since I send out over 150 emails each week I neither encourage or discourage your response.

Before you respond please check my web site www.mathwise.net Go to parents and read frequently asked questions and Back to School Notes. I have tried to answer all possible questions there.

If you respond please reply off the Progress Report so I will have the pertinent information before me. (I.e. Please give me your full name and your child full name and period.)

I have several email address. See the following.

Mr.Erickson@mathwise.net

Mr.Wonderful@mathwise.net

007@mathwise.net

You can also email me from my web site.

When I see the need, I will email you about specific information about your student’s behavior.

Examples could be if the student is wasting class time, materials not brought, poor behavior or manners etc

HW Calendar (Homework assignments are posted here)

Discipline (I hate this)

The biggest concerns I have are Textbook not being covered, failure to use class time wisely (cost to taxpayer 13 cents a minute) and failure to put their name on their homework assignment.
