How can I know my child's grade?
Grades are posted in my room on Monday. If you supply me with your (parent) email address. I will email you a weekly update on homework and test grades. Please send me your email address, your child's name and class period.
The latest email shows a low test score. What should I do?
Do not panic. If your child usually gets good grades and you notice one grade is below average don't panic. Your child will receive the test back. I suggest you go over the test in question and make sure that your child understands the material. If the low test scores continued I have many suggestions on my website under Resources.
My child gets great homework grades but does not do well on tests. What‘s up?
Homework is graded on form, effort, completeness and neatness. Therefore students are able to receive good homework grades and still do poorly on tests. Answers to odd homework questions are in the back of the book and homework is discussed at the beginning of each class. If a student is not getting the correct answers help should be sought and questions should be asked in class. The daily warm-up assignment is part of the homework assignment. The warm up assignment emphasizes the topics and types of problems that I plan to test on. Please also read the many helpful ideas I have listed under Resources on my website.
My student is trying but having difficulties. What can be done?
Plenty!
Make sure that all homework is being completed.
Check also that the daily warm-ups have been completed.

Review all questions missed on the tests. Tests are returned each week.

My child needs extra help. What resources are available?
Niguel Hills offers a number of resources to help your student succeed. They include many before and after school programs. Contact Pam Powell or Bobbie Bush at 234-5360 for times and places. I am also available before and after school most days.
Does my student need a tutor?
A tutor may be helpful if the student is really trying. Really trying includes completing all homework assignments. Showing all your work. Asking questions in class. Reviewing the questions missed on the tests. It is my experience that finding s friendly study buddy, with a good understanding of the material, has the greatest success.
