STEPS for STUDYING for YOUR FINAL EXAM
The following is a study check list! Check off each part as you complete
it. Ideally, this list should be started your final!!
(If you have a lot of trouble areas, you'll need to start sooner.)
1) GET ORGANIZED:
- Gather up all exams (and solution sheets or solutions given in
class)
- Gather up all homework
- Gather up all class notes
- Gather up all flash cards
2) FIND TROUBLE AREAS:
- Look through each exam...
- Write down all problems that you didn't get the majority of credit
on (i.e. problems that you didn't just get 1 or 2 points off for a boo-boo)
3) RELEARN! - (focus on trouble
areas):
- Rework class examples for these problems
- Redo homework for these problems
- Get tutoring, if needed
- Go to teacher's office for help, if needed
4) OVERVIEW STUDY:
- Write down all exam questions (without solutions) on a few sheets of
paper
- Read all exam solutions (along with the original problems, of
course)
- Glance through class notes and read what you don't remember off the
top of your head
- Read through all flash cards
5) TEST YOURSELF:
- Retake the exams, working from the questions you copied (you may
want to do this in a couple of chunks!)
- Grade yourself using the solution sheets (or your solution notes
from class)
6) INTENSE STUDY - (focus on the
problems you missed in step 5):
- Rework examples from class notes
- Redo homework
- Go through all flash cards until you know them cold
7) WRAP-UP:
- Look through all exams (and solutions) again
- Look through class notes again
- Look through flash cards
- Relax and just do your best!
GOOD LUCK!
